オノ・ヨーコは、言葉や行為によって想像力を刺激し、日常に潜む惰性的習慣や束縛から鑑賞者を解き放つ作品を発表し続けています。8/ ART GALLERY/ TOMIO KOYAMA GALLERYでは、オノが19歳の頃に制作した「見えない花」のエディション作品を展示いたします。個展「YOKO ONO: FROM MY WINDOW」（東京都現代美術館、2015-16年）にてオリジナルが初公開された「見えない花」は、詩のような英文とイメージによって構成されるドローイング集です。作品からは作家のみずみずしい感性と、彼女の芸術の知られざる原点を見てとることができます。本展では、ショーン・オノ・レノンの全面的な監修のもと、最新の技術をもってオリジナルに忠実に再現されたデジタルアートプリント作品を展示。作家の写真とメッセージが新たに加えられた、351部限定のボックスセット作品です。

「スメリー・ジョン」を読んでびっくりした。母が父に出会う前に、これを書いていたなんて信じられなかった。時が意識の中でワープした。「スメリー・ジョン」は父のことではないか？（中略）母の失われていた作品が、これでよみがえる。最高だ。この作品の再現は僕が全ページを監修した。もちろん、これは当然のことだ。この作業中、母の最大のファンであった父の存在を身近に感じた。こういう作業を父と一緒にやりたかった、と心から思う。父はどんなに喜んだだろうか。（ショーン・オノ・レノン「オノ・ヨーコ／見えない花（スペシャル・ボックス・エディション）」プレスリリース、キメラライブラリー、2013年）

オノ・ヨーコは1933年東京生まれ。1953年に家族とニューヨークに転居、以後世界中で展覧会やパフォーマンスを行い、オリジナルな作品を発表し続けています。これまで数多くの展覧会を行っており、2000-04年には世界各国を巡回する大規模な回顧展「YES オノ・ヨーコ」展を開催。近年では「Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960-1971」（ニューヨーク近代美術館、2015年）、「YOKO ONO: FROM MY WINDOW」（東京都現代美術館、2015-16年）が好評を博しました。2009年ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレで金獅子賞生涯業績部門受賞、2011年第8回ヒロシマ賞受賞。

Yoko Ono’s practice has always stimulated our imagination through words and gestures, offering viewers a sense of release from their daily routines. 8/ ART GALLERY/ TOMIO KOYAMA GALLERY will present an editioned work of ‘AN INVISIBLE FLOWER’, which Ono created at the age of 19. The original work was shown to the public for the first time at her solo exhibition ‘YOKO ONO: FROM MY WINDOW’ at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2015-2016). It is comprised of a collection of drawings, paired with poetic English texts and images. In these works, we see the artist’s fresh sensibility unfold into her art practice. Under the supervision of her son, Sean Ono Lennon, these digital printed works were created using contemporary techniques, while remaining faithful to the originals. This work is a new addition to Ono’s oeuvre, in both imaging and writing, and is a limited box set of 351.

It seemed like the story had been written about my dad, but it was dated ten years before they had even met. I felt like I was in a time warp. Was Smelty John supposed to be Dad? (…) I read the story and realizing these drawings had never been published, I thought it might be a good beginning for Chimera Library. I had the work recreated, every page exactly as it had been drawn. It seemed it had to be done that way. As I was doing it, I couldn’t help wondering what Dad would have thought. Yoko Ono was born in Tokyo in 1933 and moved to New York with her family in 1953. She has continued to hold exhibitions and performances since then, and kept producing strikingly original works of art on a global scale. She held a vast number of exhibitions to date, including the major retrospective show “YES YOKO ONO” which toured museums globally from 2000-2004. “Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960-1971” (MoMA New York, 2015) and “YOKO ONO: FROM MY WINDOW” (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 2015-16) were highly acclaimed. At the 2009 Venice Biennale, she received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2011, she won the 8th Hiroshima Art Prize. This show, her second solo exhibition with Tomio Koyama Gallery, will take place at the gallery’s Kitasando and Shibuya Hikarie spaces concurrently.
