セラミックアーティストとして、現在注目を集めている桑田卓郎。桑田の作品でまず印象的なのは、一見すると陶芸作品とは信じがたい鮮やかな色彩です。また、厚くかけられた長石釉（志野釉）の「かいらぎ（焼成した時にできる釉薬のひび割れ）」がはがれ落ちている、独特の釉薬表現の茶碗シリーズ等は、力強い緊張感でこちらに迫ってくるようです。豊かな陶芸の歴史、伝統的な技法・素材と、瑞々しくシャープな感性の融合によって生み出される作品が、まだ見ぬ陶芸表現の広がりを予感させます。2013年1月にニューヨークで個展、2月にはシカゴのグループ展に参加と国外でも精力的に発表する桑田卓郎の新作をお楽しみください。

Takuro Kuwata has recently attracted attention as a ceramic artist. What is most striking about Kuwata's works is the incredibly bright color of the ceramics. His series of bowls among others possess a unique expression where the "kairagi" (cracks form in the glaze during firing) of the thickly applied feldspar glaze (Shino glaze) has come loose and fallen off, compelling us to observe with a strong sense of tension. It brings anticipation of greater expansion of ceramic expression, arising from the combination of the rich history of ceramic art, traditional technique, materials, and a fresh and sharp sensitivity. Please enjoy the exhibition of new works by Takuro Kuwata, who is also actively presenting his works abroad in a solo exhibition in New York in January, 2013 and a group exhibition in Chicago in February, 2013.
